Fostering Connections St. Johns July 2021 Newsletter

Dear Fostering Connections St. Johns Supporters,

I hope you and your family are having a great summer!

It has been a busy summer here at Fostering Connections St. Johns!

Our Career Readiness Academy program has been in session throughout the month of June. This year, we had two sessions of Career Readiness Academy. In each session, students have learned all of the foundational skills needed to secure a job; how to apply for a job, resume writing, interview skills, employee etiquette , customer service, working with team members, and basic budgeting. Our students have learned a lot and are growing in their career readiness skills. Our Session 1 students have graduated and are beginning their internships. Session 2 students will be graduating in July. Many thanks to The Kookaburra, internship sites, and our many volunteers for their continued support and partnership!

In July, we will be hosting College Readiness Academy in partnership with St. Johns River State College. Only 3% of foster youth nationally go on to earn a Bachelor's Degree. Fostering Connections St. Johns is working to fill in the gaps through providing youth in care the mentoring and support they need to achieve their college and career goals. Learn more in this month's newsletter. Many thanks to Vice Chair Joel Abo, Director of Business and Corporate College at St. Johns River State College, for coordinating College Readiness Academy,

We are so excited for Back to School Bash! This year, we are partnering with Rotary Club of St. Augustine Beach to collect school supplies and donations to purchase backpacks for kids in care. We are excited to announce that The Bubble Truck will be at Back to School Bash! Learn more about how you can donate and support Back to School Bash in our newsletter.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Our children in foster care are amazing young people who have many goals and dreams. Working together as a community, we are helping to fill in the gaps in services for local children in care to help each child achieve their goals.

How can you help fill in the gaps? I look forward to connecting with you soon!

Kind Regards,

Aubrie Simpson-Gotham
